WHO WE ARE
Two brothers who grew up on the water
We’re a family business, founded by brothers with over a decade of hands-on experience in the waterfront industry. We started Michigan Docks because we believed lake homeowners deserved better — more personal service, more honest advice, and craftsmen who take real pride in what they build.
We work on inland lakes, river properties, and Great Lakes shorelines across Michigan, Ohio & Indiana. When you hire Michigan Docks, you get the owners on-site, personally accountable for every job we put our name on.

OUR WORK
Projects across Michigan’s waterways
-
We're based in Brighton, MI and primarily serve Southeast Michigan — Livingston, Oakland, Washtenaw, and Genesee counties. We work on lakes including Brighton Lake, Chemung Lake, Whitmore Lake, Lake Fenton, Lobdell Lake, Portage Lake, and many others across the region. We also serve clients across Michigan and have completed projects in Northern Ohio and Indiana. Not sure if you're in our range? Give us a call. -
Yes. We install and service hydraulic and cable-drive boat lift systems for everything from small fishing boats to large pontoons and tritoons. We carry lifts ranging from 1,500 lbs to 10,000+ lbs capacity, and we'll measure your water depth and assess your shoreline before recommending a system. We also carry PWC ports and floating drive-on options for jet skis.
-
For most Michigan inland lakes, sectional aluminum docks are the go-to — they're durable, low-maintenance, easy to remove each fall, and hold up against Michigan winters. For properties with mucky bottoms, significant water level fluctuation, or wave exposure, a floating dock system is often a better fit. We walk every property before making a recommendation, because the right answer depends on your specific shoreline conditions.
-
For most Michigan lakes, yes. Ice movement and freeze-thaw cycles can cause serious structural damage to docks and lifts left in the water — even on smaller inland lakes. We offer seasonal removal in fall and reinstallation in spring, and we can set up a recurring annual service so you don't have to think about it. Some permanent structures are designed to stay in, and we can advise you on that too. -
Yes — this is one of our specialties. We work with homeowners through the entire insurance claim process, from initial damage assessment and written documentation to direct communication with your adjuster and completing all approved repairs. Storm damage, wind damage, and watercraft collisions are typically covered. Ice damage to docks left in the water past recommended removal dates is the most common exclusion — another good reason to pull your dock in the fall. -
It varies based on dock size, materials, water depth, shoreline conditions, and what you need installed with it (lifts, accessories, etc.). We provide free on-site consultations and written estimates before any work begins — that's the only way to give you an honest number, because every property is different. There's no obligation to proceed after the quote.
